Success Stories: Concord Fortress of Hope

In success stories, Church Development shares how we've helped churches reach their giving goals. Today’s church—Concord Fortress of Hope church in Kansas City, Kansas—partnered with Church Development after a less-than-stellar self-run capital campaign, and raised nine times what the previous campaign raised only two years prior.

Whenever I meet with a church, inevitably one the first questions that comes up is something along the lines of, “We’ve got a lot of smart people, why can’t we do a capital campaign ourselves?”

The truth is, you can, but you’ll typically bring in 25-50% of annual giving over the three-year capital campaign period as opposed to 200-300% of annual giving with Church Development.

Concord Fortress of Hope in Kansas City fell within that statistic.

Success Stories: Redemptorist Catholic Church

In success stories, Church Development shares how we've helped churches reach their giving goals. Today’s church—Redemptorist Catholic Church in Kansas City, Kansas—had a number of stressful staff changes, but still came through their capital campaign with prayer, community contact, and the grace of God.

“If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.” ~James 1:5 (NIV)

Despite having a beautiful 100-year-old building, they had a desperate need for a new roof (there was knee-deep water in the basement), the damaged interior paint needed redone, and in the middle of the campaign, the Business Manager, Senior Pastor and the Director of Stewardship all left. Despite the key stewardship leaders leaving, we could not cancel or delay the urgent renovation needs.

So what did we do? We did what we’d do in any of our capital campaigns:

Today’s church—Pleasant Valley Baptist in Liberty, Missouri—turned an unfortunate bill into a memorable memento that helped increase their giving.

In the last blog I mentioned how doodads (inexpensive token reminders) increase giving by 10-20%. Pleasant Valley Baptist Church in Liberty, MO, had the unfortunate dilemma of having a large tree blow over in their parking lot. Instead of grumbling at the cost of removal, the pastor walked into church that Sunday and announced, “The Lord has provided the raw material for our capital campaign thank you gift!”

Success Stories: St. Bridget Catholic Church

In success stories, Church Development shares how we've helped churches reach their giving goals. Today’s church—St. Bridget Catholic church in Pleasant Hill, Missouri—made stewardship education a priority for six months and vastly improved their annual giving.

For the last two weeks we’ve discussed the importance of talking to your church about stewardship. In my first post on the topic, I mentioned how Catholic churches talk the least about giving, and as a result, give an average of 45% less than other major denominations. With that in mind, it seems fitting to give a Catholic success story in stewardship education:

Success Stories: Grace Presbyterian Church

In success stories, Church Development shares how we've helped churches reach their giving goals. With today's church -- Grace Presbyterian in Highlands Ranch, Colorado --  two weeks away from completing their new building, we want to share a glimpse of their joy near the end of this seven-year journey.

With praise and thanksgiving they sang to the LORD: “He is good; his love toward Israel endures forever." And all the people gave a great shout of praise to the LORD, because the foundation of the house of the LORD was laid. ~Ezra 3:11 (NIV)

You might not be able to tell from first glance, but these are Bible verses written on the concrete foundation of the new Grace Presbyterian church building in Highlands Ranch, CO.
