Hope in Despairing Times: A Success Story in Three Parts (Part Two)

20 Feb. 2017 Posted by Denis Greene in Success Stories

Amidst political and economic uncertainty, Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Lenexa, Kansas, reminds us that God’s generosity is unfailing. In 2017, they have seen a fifteen percent increase in annual giving. I am spending three weeks touching on how three basic tenets of our Stewardship System helped make this good news possible.

Last week, I wrote about how important it is to thank people for their pledges. This week, it’s all about engagement. Holy Trinity sought ought parishioners’ input and opinions in their long range planning. Through surveys and town hall meetings, they asked two simple questions:

  1. What is going well?
  2. What needs improvement?

In some ways, this kind of engagement bears out the old fundraising maxim: “If you ask for money, you’ll get advice. If you ask for advice, you’ll get money.” Ultimately, though, the simple truth is this: if people are invested in the process, they will invest in the outcome. When you demonstrate that you care what they think, they want you to succeed and want to be a part of that success.

Next week: step three!

Are you looking for ways to grow annual giving in your church? Let us know. We love working with churches as you discover the generosity that God has in store for you!
