Centennial United Methodist

This historic, 100 year old historic African American church is a growing but aging congregation. The church was in desperate need of major renovations.

The heart of the renovations was the installation of an elevator. Prior to the upgrades, members were not able to enter any part of the church without encountering multiple sets of stairs. However, because of Centennial’s status as an historic building, placement of this elevator would be strategic and costly. Numerous other updates were needed to comply with the standards set forth by the American Disabilities Act.

Realizing that it would be difficult to perform all of these renovations with current annual giving, Centennial formed a relationship with Church Development consultants. This partnership, combined with a high level of commitment from the pastor and campaign volunteers, resulted in a relatively seamless capital campaign titled “Together We Build with Love, Faith and Commitment.”

Members were so unified and excited about Centennial’s vision and renovation plans that nearly $170,000 was committed to the campaign early! On Commitment Sunday, Centennial members committed over $500,000 to the campaign and the number is still growing! Centennial United Methodist Church is a living example of a congregation coming together to build with love, faith, and commitment.
